The Bulls Gate is directly opposite the Castle Gate. The gate is located to the south of the castle at the fork in the road. You follow the beech avenue and soon the avenue splits into two. The right fork goes through the castle gate and is known as the old road and the the left fork is the newer access to the castle via the Bulls Gate.
The gate is made of oak and was hand made at the castle workshop. The gate has been replaced many times over the years, the last time being in the mid 1980s by my father.
It is unknown why it is called the Bulls Gate, the only explanation could be that the field between there and the castle may have contained cows (bulls) at the time but it is something I suppose we will never know the true meaning of.
