At Inner Brigurd Point next to the Oil Rig Yard access road there is an ancient Roman Pier and harbour, it is visible at low tide and is never fully uncovered as most if underground.

The foundations of the built harbour are 150 feet wide and at least 180 feet long. It is approached by a 10ft wide footing, and its walls are of a similar width, as is a low scarcement which runs round their inside edge.

The inner end is hexagonal and the bottom tighly cobbled. It is suggested that in Roman times the height of the pier could have been a maximum of 10 feet.
