Campbelton Marsh is totally man made and came into existence in the mid 1970s when a lot of the land below Campbelton Farm was excavated to provide material for the new British Steel yard. The land was excavated and destroyed all the natural and man made drains and this was never replaced thus leaving a baron hole in the ground.
Over the years the area has naturally flooded and is about one or two feet in depth but this is still enough to encourage wildlife to inhabit the area. To the South of the Marsh a Duck Pond was created in 1986 by myself and my father and this still exist to this day although it has not been maintained for many years and is getting overgrown but still the odd duck and birdlife still frequent the pond.
