Watertanks
There are two watertanks at Hunterston. The main one is located on the road up towards Goldenberry farm in the Brackenbank Plantation and is a large round sandstone structure. This used to provide the watersupply for the castle and mansion house.
The water ran down small burns from Goldenberry hill and fed through pipes to the water tank. The estate still used water from this tank until 1985 when finally a mains supply was added thus making the water tank redundant. The water pipes that supplied the castle and mansion house were made of lead and due to current regulations it was either replace all the pipes or get a mains supply.
The water tank still remains but is only used to supply a few cattle troughs.
The second watertank is located near Goldenberry Farm and is situated underground. The small cottage there is still supplied by this tank as it is too far from the mains supply. Unfortunately no images are currently available of this tank.
