Shaw Wood
Behind the walled garden is the Shaw Wood, it is a pretty wet and soft wood due to its bad drainage. The drainage used to be good but over the years the tree roots have compromised all the drains. In 1986 my father along with myself tried to drain the wood by making a few deep trenches. Although this helped a bit the problem still remained. This wood has many different wildlife from owls to kestrals and foxes.

Although not in the wood the bright tree towards the top left of image is a Horse Chestnut tree. It was good to climb but also was constant supply of prickly chestnuts. The main thing the wood boasted was many bluebells and minature 3 headed daffodils. The road that goes along the bottom of the image is the main access road to Hillhouse Farm.
