To the South West of the Mansion house there used to be a Ice House in the 19th Century that provided a cool storage facility for meats and also to keep vegtables fresh. It was your basic freezer unlike what we have today. It was more than likely dome shaped similar to the image below and would have been dug into the ground with a few meters being underground making it ideal for the ice not to melt and keep everything inside a consistant tempertature.
Between the Ice House and the House was a small Ice Pond, this provided the ice for the primitive freezer but like the Icehouse neither remain to this day.
Yellow Circle is where Ice House was Located and White Circle is former Ice Pond
