Lower Cottage is shows below the stone staircase. It is a two bedroom flat with large living room, coal fire and small kitchen. The entrance used to be in the main courtyard through one of the now living room windows but this was sealed up in the 1950s and a new door created what you see now .

It is unknown what the building was used for prior to it being converted into the two cottages. It is more than likely it was used for storage or maybe stables for the many horses the estate used in the previous century.

Lower cottage initially never had an indoor toilet so the facilities in the end shed was used, it was not until the 1960s that a small bathroom was added by reducing the main bedroom size.

Prior to the bathroom being fitted all personal bathing would have been taken in a makeshift metal bath in the living room and hot water from the wash house boiler used.
